The addition of Climate Change considerations to Management Systems Standards
June 21th. 2024
Effective February 23, 2024, the IAF and ISO have revised their standards to include considerations for climate change in the management system.
Organizations certified to ISO international standards, such as ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO/IEC 27001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001, ISO 22301, ISO 13485, ISO/IEC 27701, ISO 22716, ISO 22000, ISO 20000, and ISO 37001, are required to consider all internal and external issues relevant to their management system objectives, strategic direction, and the achievement of intended results. Over time, these internal and external issues tend to change, including the impact of climate change, which is now addressed in accordance with requirements 4.1 and 4.2 of the international standards.
If organizations are certified under these standards but deems climate change irrelevant, please provide the organization's process for making such a decision in audit report.
The inclusion of climate change considerations in the management system does not affect the versions of the various standards. Following evaluations according to this announcement, no new certificates will be issued.
For more details, please refer to the attached IAF/ISO Joint Communiqué or visit the IAF website (https://iaf.nu/en/news/iaf-and-iso-publish-joint-communique/)
Thank you.
